You might have heard: Dr. Steve Allen is turning 70 on Nov. 21.
Though he’s been retired several years now, we know he remains in the hearts of a lot of his former patients—and they have definitely stayed in his!
The Brazil native founded Internists Associated in Muncie with his wife, Cindy, in 1981. Flash forward, and the practice has cared for East Central Indiana residents for 40 years, with 14 different physicians passing through its doors and a healthcare system that has transformed in ways that would be incomprehensible back then.
But the more things change, the more they stay the same.
“It was such a pleasure being able to take care of generations of family members and extended families and getting to know the community of Muncie,” says Dr. Allen.
“We both loved our jobs,” says Cindy. “We both loved our patients. We loved caring for them.”
With his wife still working as a nurse and office manager and his daughter, Dr. Megan Zelasko, working in the practice and poised to take over when her mother retires, Dr. Allen has remained an important part of IA, even though he no longer walks the halls every day. But it’s been a lonely season for him, with health problems and COVID-19 keeping him in isolation much of the last year and a half.
So, we have something to ask.
It would mean a lot for Dr. Allen to hear from his former patients, who are often in his thoughts and are part of so many good memories. We know a card or letter from you for his birthday would be the best present he could receive.
If you’re able to write one, just drop it off at the office or mail it: 1910 W. Royale Dr., Muncie, Ind. 47304. If you can make sure we receive it by Nov. 19, we can package them all up in time for a happy birthday.
Thank you in advance! And we’ll be sure to report back with his reaction.
